🔶 Bernalillo County Proposes Official Naming of Area Known as ‘Sandia Ranch’ – The county is proposing to officially rename the land located at 6915 Edith Blvd. According to NE County, the name “Sandia Ranch” first appeared years ago when there was a tuberculosis sanatorium there.

🔶 Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Socorro getting entertainment upgrades – New Mexico is expanding entertainment options around the state with an investment of more than $1.6 million. The idea is to expand equitable access to the outdoors through states “Trail+” program.
🔶 Isotopes Unveils New LED Stadium Lighting System – The new system increases light levels more evenly throughout the ballpark, improving visibility and reducing glare for fans and players tracking the baseball.
🔶 Registration is open for Albuquerque Little Theater Summer Camp – The Albuquerque Little Theater Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants Musical Camp, Play Actors Mini Camp, Play Builders Summer Camp, and more.

🔶 2 Rio Rancho City Council seats heading to runoff election – In District 6, Nicole Dann leads her next challenger, Edward Lynn Paulsgrove, by more than 200 votes but she fell short of the required 50% of the vote. Paul M. Weimar is the new District 5 councilor with 54% of the vote. The second round of city council elections will be held on April 9.
🔶 New Mexico Diocese Lawyers Abuse Case Launch Website – The lawyers behind a new lawsuit are also launching an outreach project to encourage other victims to come forward. Since launching the site earlier this year, they say about six have survived.
🔶 Rio Grande Theater is offering 2024 Summer Camps – Registration is now open for the inaugural year of Rio Grande Theater Camp. Theater and Tech classes will be offered. Last day of registration is May 24 at 4:00 PM
🔶 New Mexico law goes into effect in spring – Lawmakers recently approved a wide range of bills, from gun-related regulations to what students must meet in order to graduate high school. Many of these new laws will take effect on May 15.
🔶 The New Mexico History Museum will host a free community event at the Palace of the Governors – the event is a celebration of five years of restoration work on the palace. “History Homecoming: Past, Present, Palace” will be held on Sunday, April 21, at the Governors’ Palace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
🔶 Eastern New Mexico University receives more than $16 million for improvements – Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) is receiving a range of campus improvements thanks to funding approved during the 2024 legislative session. The school is getting $12 million for a new student academic services building. Groundbreaking for that project is happening later this year, the school says.
🔶 New Mexico offers debt relief for health care workers – workers must meet certain qualifications, such as working in a qualified occupation or under a qualified health care license. Application deadline is May 1, 2024, at 5:00 p.m
🔶 New Mexico Medicaid now covers Opil oral contraceptives – Medicaid consumers can get contraceptives at no cost, state says. Customers just need to ask for the medicine at the pharmacy counter. Medicaid in New Mexico offers free pregnancy tests and emergency contraception. There is also a hotline (1-833-796-8773) for reproductive health care questions and help.
🔶 I-10 Rehabilitation Project Near Arizona Border Causes Delays – A massive interstate rehabilitation project will cause delays on both eastbound and westbound I-10. The work will begin on Monday, April 1. Work on I-10 between Milepost 0 on the Arizona-New Mexico border and Milepost 15 in Hidalgo County will last about 200 business days, the New Mexico Department of Transportation says. Drivers should expect lane closures during the day.
🔶 New Mexico History Museum collects community artifacts for Jozobra exhibit – The museum and the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe want to see the community’s favorite memories of Jozobra, also known as “Old Man Gloom.” Community members can bring vintage merchandise, family movies or other memorabilia directly to the NMHM on Lincoln Street to be examined and photographed on site.
🔶 New Mexico Military Institute students head to DC to compete in National Science Bowl Finals – The New Mexico Military Institute team secured their spot in the finals and an all-expenses-paid trip after winning a qualifying regional competition last weekend. The national finals will be held April 25-29 in Washington, DC, and will include science activities and sightseeing along with the competition.
