ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – University of New Mexico Lobo men’s basketball fans received welcome news Wednesday. Lobos head coach Richard Pitino is based in New Mexico.

Multiple reports have listed Pitino as a top candidate to be the next head coach of the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball program. Only that was no longer the case on Wednesday, with a new name emerging on the job. CBS sports.com reported that the Cardinals have a verbal agreement with College of Charleston head coach Pat Kelsey and are expected to officially introduce him as head coach later this week.

Kelsey spent three seasons at the College of Charleston, winning 75 with just 27 losses. In his final two seasons with the Cougars, Kelsey led his team to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, winning 27 games this season and a school record 31 last year.
