ELEPHANT BUTTE, NM (KRQE) – Elephant Butte Lake State Park is receiving $1 million from the Department of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources (EMNRD) to improve its comfort stations. There are plans to demolish an old station at the park’s main entrance and renovate two campground stations
EMNRD said the projects are expected to span from April to August; During construction, vaults and portable toilets will be available for use by visitors. “We ask our visitors for their patience and understanding during this process, which will ultimately create amenities that will enhance the overall park visitor experience for years to come,” said Park Superintendent Chris Bolen.
In addition to renovating the comfort station, the state park is set to improve the RV dump station, connection to city sewer services and ridge road infrastructure. The park is also working to develop a new aquatic invasive species check station. All projects are part of the park’s five-year capital improvement plan.
