ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who hit Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina in February is speaking out.

Todd Perchert was driving his Mustang to meet a car club when he was hit in Medina. On his way to a press conference and driving to his unmarked police unit, Chief Medina said he saw a homeless encampment and turned back to check on it. The chief said he and his wife saw a man point a gun and then heard a gunshot, and that’s when he sped away to get out of the situation.

Perchert’s attorney said they have questions about why Medina stopped in the first place and didn’t turn on his lapel camera. Attorneys said they are not calling for the chief’s resignation, but seeking accountability.
