Mescalero man sentenced to 9 years in prison for ‘brutal’ attack on Mescalero Apache reservation.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Dennett Jerome Che, 37, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after what the US Department of Justice (DOJ) called a “brutal” attack on a man on the Mescalero Apache Reservation.

The DOJ said Chi and another unidentified man were attacked in 2022 During the attack, the victim lost consciousness, the DOJ says

Once the victim regained consciousness, he went home and was then taken to Lincoln County Medical Center. He was eventually transferred to University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. The DOJ said the victim had a fracture to the eye socket, a vertebral fracture and other injuries.

When police confronted Chi after the incident, he was carrying a wooden bat-like object. Facing federal charges, he pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
