NEW MEXICO (NEXTSTAR) – Americans are expected to spend billions of dollars on Easter candy in 2024 – and you’d better believe a large portion is going toward chocolate eggs. Like most of the United States, the most popular Easter candy in New Mexico is Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, according to DoorDash.
Whether they’re filled with a peanut paste or whatever is supposed to be inside a Cadbury Creme egg, chocolate eggs are “Most Popular” Easter candy among DoorDash customers in the weeks leading up to the holiday. In fact, DoorDash analysts determined that chocolate eggs accounted for the largest portion of Easter candy purchases in 47 states, based on sales data from this time last year.
The other three states – New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and South Dakota – well, they just have to be different, right?
The above map provided by DoorDash also indicates that America’s 47 egg-loving states are seemingly split in their preferences for Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs and Cadbury Creme Eggs: The former seems to be more popular across the Midwest, South and Southeast, while the latter in the West, South- Seems to be the preferred choice in some parts of the West and Northeast.

In addition to the map above, DoorDash has also compiled a list of the best-selling Easter candies across the United States based on 2023 sales data. On top, surprisingly, is the chocolate egg. But bunnies, jellybeans and pips make a strong showing further down the rankings.

Americans are expected to spend approx $3.1 billion on Easter candy this year, or about 30% of their entire food budget for the holiday, the National Retail Federation (NRF) estimated earlier this month. The National Confectioners Association (NCA), however, estimates this number close to $5 billion, Based on historical purchasing trends.
The NCAO recognized that chocolate eggs were a top-selling Easter treat (right up there with the chocolate bunny), but its members did not discriminate against consumers who preferred jellybeans or pips to “cream” like goopy eggs.
“Regardless of the treats they prefer, Americans can agree that every celebration is sweet with chocolate and candy,” said an NCA executive.
