ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A 53-year-old Roswell man died Wednesday night when he was hit by a car while trying to walk down a street. According to the Roswell Police Department, Jimmy James Galvan was crossing South Sunset Avenue near West Hobbs Street when he was struck.

Galvan was taken to a nearby hospital but died about three hours later, police said. Police say the car that hit him was heading north on South Sunset. The 29-year-old male driver and his 23-year-old female passenger were not injured in the crash.

Roswell police say there are no streetlights in the area where the crash occurred and Galvan was wearing dark clothing. The driver told police he did not see Galvan, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
